DESCRIPTION
RESIBLOCK
F.R.I. paving sealant is the only paving sealer / enhancer to
be designed specifically for chevron blocked roundabouts and traffic
islands. Its requirement came about because major safety and maintenance
problems had been encountered by a significant reduction in the
reflective quality of the white pavers by both traffic film build-up
and weed infestation. RESIBLOCK
F.R.I.'s formulation is based on a specialist aliphatic prepolymer
resin in a hydrocarbon solvent. The sealer must be used in conjunction
with the unique priming system to ensure adequate penetration of
the joints as well as adhesion to the pavers themselves. In the design of RESIBLOCK F.R.I.
paving sealant the following specific considerations had to be made;
The Ballotini beaded surface of the
pavers is exceptionally coarse, and as such easily retains traffic
film and detritus, being particularly noticeable on white blocks.
The epoxy/C.R.P. painted finish on the pavers greatly reduces the
porosity normally found on standard concrete pavers, preventing
the absorption/adhesion characteristic required by most paving sealers.
The intensity of the white pavers dictated that any sealer had to
be UV light stable. The joints on most roundabouts are filled with
kiln dried sand which is either washed out by rainfall or, more
usually retain moisture to provide an environment that encourages
the growth of weeds and grasses. The sealant not only had to be
strong enough to withstand traffic vibration but moreover it had
to be able to be cleaned by a pressure washer without significant
dislodgement of the epoxied Ballotini surface:

Benefits. |
| |
Sand loss prevented
by rainwater on the banked surfaces |
| |
Pavers protected
from becoming stained by detritus and traffic film build-up |
| |
Inhibit weed and
grass growth in the sand joints (which create a hazard by |
| |
obscuring the chevron
pattern) |
| |
Unaffected by water
or ice |
| |
Firmly bonds the
Ballotini beaded surface |
| |
Greatly increases
safety as the pavers can be economically and frequently |

cleaned and hence
maintain the reflective quality |
| |
Whilst designed
specifically for all coloured epoxy resin/C.R.P. faced blocks |
| |
RESIBLOCK F.R.I.
can also be used on any standard concrete paver. |
| |
Greatly exceeds

| |
Eliminate
serious damage by freeze/thaw cycle |
| |
Prevent pavers
from spalling, cracking and settling by heavy traffic after
use |

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
|
 |
|
RESIBLOCK F.R.I. is a urethane based low
viscosity prepolymer jointing sand stabiliser and surface
sealer, designed specifically for Black/White Chevron
block paved roundabouts. Its penetration and bonding
comes about through solvent evaporation, polymerisation
being effected by atmospheric moisture. It incorporates
a completely unique moisture curing system eliminating
the problems common to water based and solvent acrylic
coatings. Its main function is to bind the particles
of sand together and to the vertical faces of the paver.
|

Single component - fast cure, ensures
rapid re-use of the roundabout |
| |
UV stable. Ensures non-yellowing
of White pavers |
| |
Penetration brought about by solvent
evaporation |
| |
Can be applied all year round (see
application information). |
| |
Suitable for all types of traffic
islands and roundabouts |

GENERAL TECHNICAL DATA
|
| Coverage |
| 1.8 m sq /l (first coat), 3.0 m sq /l (second coat)
depending on joint width and paver porosity |

| Storage |
| Store under cover and protect from extremes of temperature.
Being aliphatic based it is temperature sensitive, if
stored at temperatures below 10 deg C, the polymer may
tend to settle out of the solvent, as such ensure contents
of container are thoroughly mixed. |

APPLICATION INFORMATION
|
| 1 Make sure the surface and jointing sand is
THOROUGHLY DRY and free from dirt. |
| 2 Ensure that RESIBLOCK F.R.I. is
only applied when there is no risk of rain within
the next 8 hours. |
| 3 Do not apply in extremes of temperature (below
3o C or above 30o C). |
| 4 Ensure paving is thoroughly swept and that
no jointing sand remains in the chamfers. |
| 5 Apply horizontally to the surface using a
RESIBLOCK APPLICATION ROLLER. |
| 6 Accurate application rates are
critical to ensure full joint stabilisation ((typically
1.6 m sq /litre ).). |
| 7 Wait until first coat is palm-print
dry, then apply second coat vertically using
a RESIBLOCK APPLICATION ROLLER. |
| 8 Avoid walking on the sealed area
for 3 hours after application and do not allow
vehicular over-run for 48 hours. |
| 9 ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES
AND GOGGLES. NO SMOKING. WEAR A MASK WHEN WORKING
IN CONFINED AREAS. Please refer to current MSDS. |
| 10 11 All uncured spillages/splashes,
and all tools must be cleaned immediately with
RESICLEAN. |
| SPECIAL NOTE. These application
guidelines refer to newly constructed roundabouts
only. Special application procedures and special
materials (including RESIBLOCK F.R.I. HV)
are required for refurbishment projects. See

HEALTH & SAFETY
|
PVC gloves and protective clothing/face
shield must be worn, plus use of a barrier
cream on exposed areas of skin, as uncured
RESIBLOCK F.R.I. may be considered
a hazardous material.
No smoking or naked flames to be allowed,
as RESIBLOCK F.R.I. is FLAMMABLE.
Ensure area to be treated is well ventilated.
If public access is allowed, erect NO SMOKING
signs and site fire extinguishers
A mask of the recommended type is essential
when using a paintbrush, working close to
the surface or internally. Sabre or Martindale
is recommended.
Do not apply RESIBLOCK F.R.I. in
the presence of foodstuffs. Once fully cured
RESIBLOCK F.R.I. can be considered
innocuous. Do not clean hands with RESICLEAN
as solvents may de-fat skin leading to dermatological
problems.
Do not return unused material to original
containers. DO NOT RESEAL or store partly
used kegs. Material so stored may have poor
adhesion, Carbon Dioxide may generate and
put the drum under pressure, which might
rupture the drum. Furthermore partial or
total solidification of the sealant may occur.
